The Valspar Championship Projections Preview

Each week, I will be sharing the top 20 players in our model’s projections based on win percentage. I’ll also be including some reactions to the initial results and context as to why certain players landed higher or lower than the market. Here are the results for this week’s Valspar Championship:

  • Shane Lowry is our biggest flag plant of the week as we have him fourth in our win percentage, ahead of other contenders like Viktor Hovland and Dustin Johnson. Over his last 24 rounds, Lowry ranks third (behind Hovland and Russell Knox) in SG:APP, which is accounting for his boosted projection. Hopefully we get a little “luck of the Irish” from Lowry with the tournament teeing off on St. Patrick’s Day!
  • Harold Varner is popping in this week’s projections coming off of a sixth-place finish at The Players Championship. He entered the final round of the tournament within one stroke of the lead, but could not get his putting game going throughout Monday. Look for him to bounce-back this week.
  • One player that we’re lower than market on is Keegan Bradley as his around-the-green play has not been as stellar lately. Over his last 36 rounds, Bradley ranks 59th in SG:ARG, leading to the discount in our model.
