After two rounds of action, the current U.S. Open leaderboard has a little bit of everything on top. 23 players are at or within four shots of the lead including seven of the top 14 in the world, five PGA Tour rookies, and one amateur. Collin Morikawa and Joel Dahmen both share the lead at 5-under. Defending champion, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Aaron Wise, Hayden Buckley and Beau Hossler are each one shot back at 4-under. Master champion, Scottie Scheffler and four others sit two shots back at 3-under.
The Country Club in Brookline played difficult again on Friday as the field averaged almost two shots over par. Conditions might be at their toughest tomorrow as winds are forecast to be steady between 15-18 mph with gusts in the 20-30 mph range throughout the day. With greens firming up, and the USGA most likely using even more difficult pin positions, the cream should continue to rise to the top and perhaps create some separation by the end of tomorrow’s round.
