The last time we saw him was his solo third-place finish at the rain-shortened Pebble Beach Pro-Am, a week after his surprising win at Torrey Pines. Looking at past results for Pavon, a 31-year-old who&#8217;s spent the past six years in the middle of the pack on the DP World Tour, it feels like his recent pop of success is an outlier and not an indicator of things to come. Dating back to 2017, Pavon won once in 187 starts on the DP World Tour, topping out at two T5 finishes in any given year. He&#8217;s already done that in just five PGA Tour starts this season. Now, I don&#8217;t want to pretend he can&#8217;t improve, but this is not suddenly a top 20 golfer in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Navigating PGA National for the first time also brings a new set of challenges, and Shane Lowry&#8217;s experience and success here give him the edge. Lowry&#8217;s stateside home is a short drive away, and he&#8217;s finished inside the top five in each of his past two starts at this event. Lowry&#8217;s also one of the best first-round performers in this week&#8217;s field. Per&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/betspertsgolf.com\/the-rabbit-hole\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Rabbit Hole<\/a>, Lowry ranks third in SG: Total Round 1 over the past nine months. With Lowry being the underdog here, we win with a first-round tie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chris Kirk (+0.5) vs. Jake Knapp<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Give me the defending course champion versus the PGA Tour rookie coming off his first career win the week before. Chris Kirk is a terrific course fit for PGA National and has been competitive in his past three starts at this event. He finished&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/betspertsgolf.com\/custom-report\/4309\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fourth in my model<\/a>&nbsp;this week, grading well in his recent SG: T2G form, along with past success in both SG: Florida and SG: BS on courses with high levels of water danger.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps Jake Knapp comes to PGA National for the first time and picks up where he left off last week. I think what&#8217;s way more likely is that Knapp didn&#8217;t have a normal week of preparation comparatively and is a bit less dialed in than usual since, after all, he&#8217;s a human and not a robot. Again, we win with Kirk if there&#8217;s a tie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Akshay Bhatia (+1.5) vs. Nick Dunlap<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a fun matchup between two of the PGA Tour&#8217;s youngest and brightest future stars. I lean Bhatia here straight up, but we&#8217;re getting 1.5 strokes, which makes this incredibly appealing. Bhatia&#8217;s an elite driver, with plus distance and accuracy off the tee. PGA National is littered with forced layups off the tee, and driving accuracy hasn&#8217;t been a calling card of Nick Dunlap&#8217;s game up to this point.
