We have seen some exciting finishes in the first two weeks of the season, and I expect more of the same as we venture into the Shriners Open this week in Las Vegas.

The swing season is sometimes known for its weak fields, but we actually have quite the showing this week in Sin City. We have Patrick Cantlay, Max Homa, and defending champ Sungjae Im all back from the Presidents Cup. While Tom Kim, Aaron Wise, and other great golfers will be teeing it up this week in search of their first win this season.

Given the strength at the top of the board, we are really seeing some value and good numbers down the board on a lot of different golfers that hold an excellent chance to win or cash us a bet this week. Given the nature of the course, longer-shot golfers can excel here and can find themselves atop the leaderboard.

PC Summerlin is a short par 71 that has yielded some very low scores over the past few years. -24, -23, –23, and -21 have all been the winning score over the past four years. I am looking at accurate drivers of the ball, good wedge players, and golfers with the proven ability to go very low.

Let’s get into my favorite bets for the Shriners Open

Outright: Taylor Moore +6600 (BetMGM)

If you are a fan of this article, you can tell that this isn’t my normal outright bet to be making. I am usually looking for someone with shorter odds that has a much higher pedigree on the PGA Tour. We are going to move away from that and take a punt on Taylor Moore this week.

Towards the end of last season, Moore had back-to-back top 10s at the Rocket Mortage and Wyndham. Two courses that yield a lot of birdies and require a lot of approach shots inside 150 yards. Over the past 24 rounds, Moore ranks 8th in birdies or better gained and 13th in SG: Tee-to-Green.

Moore has been extremely consistent on tour recently, making his last ten cuts. I also like his numbers from last week, as he gained a staggering 4.8 strokes on approach. I am looking for someone clicking with their irons right now, and that is Moore. I think we can get lucky and call our shot with a long shot this week.

Top 10: Tom Hoge +450 (DraftKings)

There seems to be a trend brewing with golfers that were just left off their respective Presidents Cup teams. Two International players close to making the team just won the weekend after the event. Tom Hoge falls into that category, and I think he will be highly motivated to contend this week.

It is hard for me to see Hoge get two wins in one calendar year, but I do think he will be in contention. This TCU alumni is coming off a 12th place finish at the Fortinet, where gained a blistering 5.6 strokes ball-striking. Hoge also will not be at a disadvantage with his lack of distance off the tee; instead, his accuracy can be rewarded.

Over the past 50 rounds, Hoge ranks 1st in proximity from 100-125 and 9th in proximity from 125-150. He also has good finishes at this event, with top 24 finishes in his last two appearances here. This is an easy winner.

Top 20: Matthew NeSmith +300 (DraftKings)

Great recent form, good course history, and an excellent record in the desert. Matthew NeSmith really checks all the boxes for me this week. Coming off a top 10 finish at the Sanderson Farms, where in typical fashion, he was red hot with his irons. NeSmith gained 6.3 strokes on approach and backed it up by gaining three strokes on the greens.

NeSmith also has excellent course history here, with three top 20 finishes in his only three starts here. He has also always putted well on these bent grass greens. Nesmith is also no stranger to desert golf, as he held the first-round lead at the WMPO a few years ago. +300 on a guy who has done nothing but top 20 at the event is an easy bet for me.

Top 40: Kurt Kityama +130 (Pointsbet)

Let’s bet the narrative this week. Kurt K is a Vegas resident that knows this course very well; he also has to potential to get extremely hot and make a lot of birdies. Plus money on a top 40 is going to be a very easy play for me.

Last season, Kitayama had three Top 3 finishes at three totally different events – the Honda Classic, the Mexico Open, and the Scottish Open. The flip side of this coin is that in between these peak performances were a lot of missed cuts. But he did recently gain over 12 strokes tee-to-green at the Italian Open. He could be riding another heater.

As far as his overall form goes, Kitayama ranks 3rd in Birdies or Better Gained, and 24th in Strokes Gained – Ball-Striking over his last 50 rounds.

Matchup: Aaron Wise over Max Homa +105 (DraftKings)

Max Homa is an excellent golfer and is bound to play better than his past performance here. However, I do think the side I want to align myself on in this matchup is Aaron Wise. As I stated, for whatever reason, Max has some terrible course history here, as he missed the cut in his last four appearances.

Wise, on the other hand, has taken quite a liking to this event and is a Vegas resident. Wise finished 8th here last year, gaining strokes in all major categories. Aaron is also known to excel and strive in the swing season as he did last year. I just think Homa’s stock is a little inflated after the President’s cup and his win. I am more willing to back Wise at this time of year so let’s win a plus money matchup this week.

Featured Image: Raj Mehta/Getty Images

[14
134
post-5199","article","type-article","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","bs_type-betting","bs_tag-shriners-childrens-open
https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/dddb0ba57c01a5c3e90660ee8076d2f3aaa8a5779809b4258cbef8e4677f7a68?s=96&d=mm&r=g
["GET
