Schauffele’s bogey-free final round earned him his second major championship, and he finished among the top 10 in all four majors this season. An impressive feat. I didn’t think we’d have any meaningful Player of the Year debates this season after Scottie Scheffler’s impressive start, but Xander snatched the mic and made this a viable discussion topic as we head into the playoffs.

We have just two events remaining leading up to the FedEx Cup Playoffs, with the Olympics breaking things up next week. While the field might be a letdown post-links swing, there are still plenty of betting opportunities on the board this week. The playoff field moving from 125 to 70 last season has put an increasingly large number of players on the bubble, and with just the 3M Open and Wyndham Championship left on the schedule, the chances to improve your position or punch your ticket are dwindling away. This change created a lot of drama down the stretch last season, and I’m hoping we see more of the same beginning this week.

That helps improve the strength of this week’s field as the Tour moves back stateside to Minnesota for the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities. TPC Twin Cities is a Par 71, 7,431-yard course that features bentgrass fairways and greens, native prairie grasses, and 13 water hazards in play that challenge golfers off the tee. Shockingly, stray drives that land in the water often lead to crooked numbers. TPC Twin Cities averaged the sixth most penalty strokes per round on Tour last season and had the most “water balls” out of any other course.

This week, driving accuracy, distance from the edge of the fairway, and Bogey Avoidance are more premium than most other “easy scoring” courses. Even so, there should be numerous birdie opportunities and a winning score in the upper teens or higher. With the greens also playing very soft and receptive here over the years, it basically comes down to a test of who can keep their ball dry off the tee, followed by a ball striking and a putting contest.

For more course details, check out Ron’s course preview. It’s the best in the business, bar none. Here are a few interesting nuggets about TPC Twin Cities:

TPC Twin Cities is among the top-10 courses on Tour, with the highest rate of strokes gained off the tee. With the 16th widest fairways on Tour averaging 35 yards on average, landing areas are substantial enough so that anyone finding the water is striking the ball very poorly. Given how many penal areas there are with water coming into play on nine of 14 drives off the tee, hitting fairways is truly at a premium this week. A few holes require a forced layup due to either bunkers pinching into the landing zone or water playing too big of a risk to hit over the top. Overall, 31 of the top 36 on last year’s leaderboard gained strokes off the tee through accuracy.

With easy-to-hit fairways, the thicker-than-average rough has not been as much of a factor in limiting greens in regulation percentage. With the GIR rate at 71%, golfers who keep their ball dry should have no trouble gaining birdie opportunities.

The greens at TPC Twin Cities are bentgrass and run at a slightly above-average pace of 12.5 on the stimpmeter. They do not have many undulations and typically get rave reviews from players as some of the smoothest running greens on Tour.

Remember to check out the Rabbit Hole, our customizable stat database that can help you pair down your player pool each week.

Please take advantage of the Discord feature and community. When accuracy off the tee is paramount, we see Bradley tighten up his approach to ensure he keeps the ball in play. He’s had driving accuracy rates of more than 10% above the field average in his past few events where it was important, including last week at Royal Troon, where his accuracy rate was 14% above the field.

His putter let him down in Scotland, but it’s been gaining steam stateside, and bentgrass is his best putting surface. He gained strokes putting in five straight events before the trip overseas, and he’s gained 0.68 strokes per round over the past 24. Bradley is comfortably inside the top-70 cutoff for the playoffs, but at just 42nd in the FedEx Cup standings, he needs to chase down more points to work his way inside the top 30 for the Tour Championship.

To Win: +4500 BetRivers

Ben Griffin

Ben Griffin has flirted with the top of a board on Sunday a few times this summer, including a solo second in Canada and a T5 at the John Deere. His approach numbers rank out near the top of this week’s field regardless of the sample size, but he’s been at his best when the scoring conditions are a bit easier, and that’s what we have this week.

Ben Griffin’s rolling form

Hopefully, Griffin can take advantage of these slightly larger-than-average fairways off the tee because if he does, I love his chances this week. He’s an excellent fit for TPC Twin Cities. His recent ball-striking form is elite, and he’s going to keep the ball in play off the tee. Over the past six months, Eckroat ranks sixth in average distance from the edge of the fairway, and he ranks eighth in that metric over the past three years when the water danger risk is high.

Ball-striking and bogey avoidance on courses with high water danger, Last 3 Years

Eckroat has only gained strokes putting in four of his 13 events dating back to his win at PGA National back in early March, but he rates out as the 12th-best bentgrass putter in this field over the past 18 months.
