Wyndham Championship Best Bets

What a PGA Tour season it has been, and it is finally about to come to a close. The Wyndham Championship marks the end of the PGA Tour regular season and the final event before the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Sedgefield Country Club has been home to the Wyndham Championship since 2008. Winners of this event include Webb Simpson, Sergio Garcia, Patrick Reed, Si Woo Kim, JT Poston, and most recently, Kevin Kisner.

This course rewards accuracy off the tee, elite mid iron/wedge play, and the ability to get hot on these undulating Bermuda greens.

We have a decent field this week with some big names with some golfers trying to fight into the FedEx cup playoffs. We have Will Zalatoris, Sungjae Im, Billy Horschel, and Shane Lowry highlighting the top of the board. Further down the board, stars like Corey Conners, Kevin Kisner, Si Woo Kim, and Adam Scott all look to get their first win of the 2022 season.

We have seen many golfers have repeated success on this course, such as Webb Simpson, who famously named his first child Wyndham. Kevin Kisner, Si Woo Kim, and Denny McCarthy have all had repeated success over the course of their careers here.

These are all golfers that you think to play on shorter, positional tracks, so it checks out that they have played well here.

Let’s get into my favorite bets of the week.

Outright: Si Woo Kim +2800 (Caesars)

This type of bet just comes out and slaps you right in the face with how obvious it is. Si Woo Kim is a past winner of this event, is in great form, and is at a very bettable number. I can assure you that I will not be the only person on this play.

Kim not only won this event in 2016 for his first of three PGA Tour victories but also has some great finishes. Playoff loss in 2021, 3rd in 2020, and 5th in 2019. The level of consistency at this course should speak volumes. Si-woo is also in some very nice form, he contended for two days at the Open Championship on his way to a 15th place finish. He then backed it up last week with a 14th place finish at the Rocket Mortgage.

I also think that 28/1 is great value in this field. We have seen Kim win the biggest nonmajor on tour as he is a Players Champion, and he tends to pop and just win golf tournaments. I just believe that he has so much more win equity than the guys around him, like Russell Henley, Corey Conners, Adam Scott, and Webb Simpson. Bet Si Woo Kim to win the 2022 Wyndham Championship.

Top 10: Billy Horschel +260 (FanDuel)

Another golfer that has excellent course history at this event I expect to see at the top of the leaderboard come Sunday. Since he doesn’t have a win here, I think his course history might be a little overlooked.

Billy has only missed one cut at this event and came in second in his last appearance. This FedEx cup champion also has a 6th, 11th, and 5th place finish at this event. I also think that he is having a really great season. He won one of the biggest nonmajors of the year at the Memorial and is off of a top 20 finish at the Open. What is promising about that finish is that he normally does not do very well overseas.

Horschel ranks 6th in SG: P, 18th in SG: T2G and 24th in SG: OTT. That is a very well-balanced skill set for a golfer who doesn’t tend to pop in models. I think that Billy has a very good chance to win this event, so +260 for a top 10 is a great price.

Top 20: Scott Stallings +240 (FanDuel)

When looking for a solid top 20 bet, always look to consistency and good recent form. Scott Stallings certainly fits that mold. Stallings has a staggering four top 10 finishes in his last six starts of the PGA Tour. These have all come at shorter PGA Tour courses that are known to yield a lot of birdies.

The approach numbers recently have just been fantastic. Over the past 24 rounds, Stallings ranks 4th in SG: APP. and 5th in SG: Ball striking. Although he does not have the best course history in the world, I think his form will carry over.

+240 for a top 20 on a golfer who has consistently been in the top 10 on tour seems like an easy bet to make.

Top 40: Adam Long +115 (FanDuel)

Another golfer in excellent form that I believe should have no problem finishing inside the top 40 this week is Adam Long. This PGA Tour winner has fallen well inside the top 40 in each of his last four finishes on Tour.

16th at the 3M, 13th at the John Deere, 25th at the Travelers, and 21st at the Canadian Open. It is clear that his game is trending in the right direction. He is off a performance at the 3M where he gained a staggering 6.6 strokes on approach. This is another scenario in which a golfer is consistently finishing well inside the finishing position we are betting them.

Long should have no trouble finding himself inside the top 40 in Greensboro this week.

Special: First Round Leader: Russell Henely +4000 (DraftKings)

I have never been more confident in a first-round leader bet in my life than Russell Henley this week. I have zero interest in Russell in the outright or placement market, but I do believe that he will find himself atop the leaderboard come Thursday.

Everyone can remember last year when Russell blew a four-shot lead on the back nine at this event after leading all week. However, he was the first-round leader of this event by two shots, firing a 62. In round one.

Russell is coming in with newly found form with a 10th place finish last week. Russ gained 5.2 strokes on the approach but lost 2.4 putting. He is back on his favorite surface, Bermuda, this week. Henley gained 2.6 strokes putting here last here and has consistently shown to excel on Bermuda.

Russel Henley will shoot a Thursday 62 and be the first-round leader this week.
