With only one week remaining before the year’s second major championship, the PGA Tour is heading to North Carolina for the Wells Fargo Championship, another small-field, no-cut “Signature” event. Located just southeast of downtown Charlotte, Quail Hollow Club has hosted a PGA Tour event nearly every year since 2003. In addition to the 2017 and 2025 PGA Championships, this world-class course also hosted the 2022 Presidents Cup.
This week’s Signature Event brings the PGA TOUR’s elite players to Charlotte, featuring a competitive 72-player field at Quail Hollow Club. Nearly all eligible top-35 players in the world are set to compete, with notable absences including world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, No. 8 Russell Henley, and No. 35 Shane Lowry.
Your 2026 Masters champ, Rory McIlroy, returns after claiming a five-shot victory here in 2024. With this win, he has reached a total of 30 PGA TOUR victories, including four at Quail Hollow Club, reinforcing his dominance at this venue. Other past champions at Quail Hollow include Max Homa, Jason Day, and Rickie Fowler. Justin Thomas also has a strong history at this course, having won the PGA Championship here in 2017.
Several players have secured their spots in the field through exemptions. Notable exemptions include Tony Finau, Max Homa, Mackenzie Hughes, and Webb Simpson, who received sponsor invites. Kristoffer Reitan earned his position through the Aon Swing 5, while David Lipsky, Ricky Castillo, Matt Wallace, and Chandler Blanchet round out the field using the same pathway.
