Another major, and another thrilling finish. After a fun, yet anti-climactic runaway win for Scottie Scheffler in the Masters we’ve seen down-to-the-wire finishes in the PGA and US Open. Matthew Fitzpatrick used 3 rounds of 68 and a 70 to vault him to his first Major win. He outlasted Will Zalatoris and Scottie Scheffler down the stretch at The Country Club including a dart from a fairway bunker on 18 to set up his eventual tournament-sealing Par.
The Betsperts Golf crew gave out the outright winner for the second consecutive major. Andy Molitor had Fitzpatrick at +3400 to bring home his first Major. Andy picked up +14.60 units thanks to his outright win and also was money in matchups yet again going 14-6 for the US Open and adding an extra +7.21 units. Overall for the US Open, Andy ended up finishing +21.71 units.
- Not only did Matthew Fitzpatrick take home his first Major win on Sunday, but he also won a cool $3.1 million thanks to his victory at -6. Fitzpatrick’s odds moved around most of the week. Andy got his outright at +3400. On FanDuel, his outright odds got as low as +2600 at times but settled around +2900 for the majority of the week leading up to the tournament. Look for Fitzpatrick to be a popular outright for the 4th and final major of the season when The Open heads to St. Andrews. Fitzpatrick this week also cashed his Top 5 (+600), Top 10 (+330), and Top 20 (+205) odds.
- In contention down the stretch with Fitzpatrick were defending Masters champion Scottie Scheffler (+1700 outright), and now the back-to-back Major runner-up Will Zalatoris (+2900 outright). Zalatoris had about 15 feet for birdie and to force a playoff and just missed it on the low side sealing his 2nd place finish. Scheffler looked like he might run away with his 2nd Major of the season thanks to a -4 start through his first 6 holes but then played holes 7-18 at +1. Scheffler cashed his Top 5 (+400), Top 10 (+235), and Top 20 (+167) odds. Zalatoris had some longer odds in those markets, with Top 5 odds at +530, Top 10 odds at +300, and Top 20 odds at +200.
- Other Notables: Defending champion Jon Rahm entered Sunday’s round at -3, just one shot off the lead but finished with a closing round 74 to drop him out of the Top 10. Collin Morikawa turned in 3 rounds under par with 2 66s and a 69, but a Saturday 77 ultimately cost him in an otherwise solid performance in his T5 finish. Rory McIlroy hovered around the lead all week as well, but a Saturday 73 and some fescue trouble ultimately cost him in the end.
The season’s 4th and final major tees off on July 14th at The Old Course at St. Andrews. This weekend we have the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands. Make sure to follow along on Betsperts Golf for all our picks and coverage.
