Player Thoughts
- With such a variety of playing styles represented in past champions at TPC River Highlands, fading players at this tournament is always a challenge. Not only do we see all types of players near the top of the leaderboard in years past, but it is also the third-shortest course on Tour. These facts allow almost every player in the field who can find a hot putter to have a fighting chance. Adding to the unpredictability of the week is that this is a “Signature” no-cut event with most of the elite players on Tour in attendance.
- When you guarantee the best players four rounds, even with poor incoming form or a bad round mixed in, the cream typically rises to the top. For example, a struggling Cameron Young, who is also not a great fit for this course, still has the upside and floor (because of his level of talent) to outscore someone like Christiaan Bezuidenhout who has been playing terrific and who fits the course.
- I’ll be trying to get leverage with Homa, Clark and Young this week. All slumping and not great course fits. I’ll take that upside any day on three guys who are desperately trying to turn it around before the last major.
- Biggest fades $7.5k and above: Matsuyama, Spieth, Fitzpatrick, Im, Scott, An
- My Scottie Scheffler lineup rate for multi-entering: 40%. I fully expect him to bounce back on a much more predictable course. The OTT variance and lack of making any putts whatsoever killed him last week.
- Hard to see any real weather edges. The course typically plays easier in the mornings and slightly less wind in the AM as well tomorrow. Combine that with some rain and softer conditions in the PM on Friday and maybe a slight edge to the AM/PM wave.

Except for the “Core Plays,” which most weeks will typically be somewhat on the chalky side, I will include at least one player I am positive on who is forecast to be lower-owned and who will present a good pivot from some of the higher-owned options. In essence, the players you see below make up the majority of my player pool for this event.
